Coworkrs

This projection was created in collaboration with Lindsay Johnson for the launch of the Coworkrs' new space in Gowanus.

They have a great outdoor space that they were cleaning up for the launch party but the wall was covered in ducts. They didn't want to try and cover them and instead asked if we can think of something to do with them so that they would add to the space. Projection mapping would provide us with endless options to change the appearance of this wall and the projection could be dynamic while our other ideas which involved painting them or adding physical elements to the structure would be static.

After mapping the structure in Isadora, we used Syphon to project video onto the pipes experimenting with different effects. We decided we wanted to use the structure itself in the design to make use of the interesting shapes we were given to work with. Our plan was to program sound visualizations that filled the pipes to the tempo of the music but they weren't able to continue to play music in the neighborhood at night which required a design that would stand on it's own.

We used After Effects and a physics library called Box2D to create animations that followed the structure of the tube. They slowly faded from one to the other creating an ever changing backdrop for the event.
